Text Box: Fourth Grade	  In Science, the fourth grade will be studying the solar system and the three states of matter.  Early Texas settlers will be the focus in Social Studies.  With the TAKS test approaching soon, Writing class will be working on strategies and preparing for the written composition.  In Reading, class the novel for the six weeks is Skylark, the sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall.  In Math, class we will be learning long division and working on measurement.  After school tutoring will begin in January for Reading and Math.  Parents will be contacted if their students needs to stay for tutoring.
Fifth Grade  The fifth grade will be studying our Constitution and government in Social Studies as well as continuing to learn the states and capitals.  In Science, we will be studying the properties of matter and forms of energy.  We will be using the novel called The Whipping Boy to learn about main idea and summarization in Language Arts.  In addition to that we will be doing TAKS preparation.  In Math, we will be studying measurement and probability.
Sixth Grade Sixth grade math left for the holidays with rates, ratios, and proportions under our belts, and will be venturing into lessons covering percents, probability, sample spaces, and systems of measurement.  In Science, we will be studying Newton’s Laws of Motion, energy, ecology, and food webs.  In Social Studies, we will be studying Japan, Korea, and Asia.  Before beginning our unit on Europe, we will take a break to discuss Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat.  In Language Arts, we will start out the year with a short writing assignment. We will then continue to focus on learning and applying literary elements to a variety of short stories. 
Community Based Instruction  Mrs. Henson’s students are working daily on their individual goals and objectives in Reading and Math.  The students have been working on self-care skills such as brushing their teeth and discussing appropriate manners.  We visited the Decatur Library on December 7th and went to Casa Torres for lunch. The students practiced manners at a sit down restaurant, finding their order on the menu, looking at the waitress to place their order, reading restroom signs, asking when they needed a drink refill, and paying for their meal.  We want to wish everyone  a Happy New Year!

                 Paradise Intermediate students participated in several activities that focused on giving unto others during the holiday season.

                 The Intermediate Student Council held their annual Penny Blast raising a total of $616.95.  Student Council members shopped for four Spirit of Christmas Angels from Wise County.  Also, a donation of $60 for a Flock of Hope will be made to the Heifer Foundation.  Additionally, $100 will be  donated to Nothing But Nets to fight the spread of Malaria in Africa.  More about these two international charities can be found at their websites; www.heiferfoundation.org and www.nothingbutnets.net.

                 Intermediate students collected 264 lbs. of staple items for the Wise County Spirit of Christmas. 

Additionally, students joined with Paradise Junior High to collect teddy bears that were donated to Cook’s Children’s hospital in Ft. Worth and with the Paradise High School PALS to collect baby food for the Wise County Pregnancy Resources Center.
