NEWSPAPER CURRICULUM:

Paradise Elementary has its own newspaper, The Paw Print. This will be the 5th year the GATES students have created an elementary newspaper. Students are involved in all aspects of the newspaper, scheduling and conducting interviews, reporting, taking pictures and downloading them for use, formatting articles, typing, editing, etc. It is always a huge undertaking for this age group.

Through the newspaper students gifted core areas will be accessed in language arts– writing, reading, editing, proofreading, etc, math-surveying, graphing, measuring, math corner, etc, and science and social studies-current events/stories, history of Paradise, etc. The first newspaper should be out late October or early November.

ONGOING CURRICULUM:

Learners have different needs and gifted students possess superior abilities and/or potential and need educational opportunities to extend their learning. Though this curriculum students will be emerged in divergent/critical thinking, differentiated and enriched environments, creative thinking through fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration strategies, etc.

Students will also received accelerated instruction though the language arts and math core areas. We will concentrate on above grade level skills to enrich and accelerate knowledge.
