Course Description:

7th grade science is a student’s first steps into secondary science and will help provide a foundation for their future science courses.  In middle school science, each course integrates life, Earth, and physical science to create a curriculum that spirals.  7th grade students will build up their skills in the laboratory through lab activities.  Students will learn to think like scientists by learning and practicing the scientific method.  Through group activities, labs, projects, and class discussions, students will learn that science is best done, and learned, through collaboration with others.  This course will provide students the opportunity to see science as part of daily life.

Daily grades = 50% (minimum of 10 daily grades)

Test grades = 50% (minimum of 4 assessments)

* Daily grades include: class participation, journals, activity sheets, projects, labs, quizzes

Late-work:

It is the students responsibility to complete and turn in all assignments on their designated due dates.  The following is the late-work policy for the Junior High Campus:

If the student does not have their work the first day it is due they may turn it in the next day for a maximum score of 70%.  If they still do not complete and turn in the assignment they will be given the opportunity for Z.A.P. tutorials.    The student must have completed the assignment to the satisfaction of the teacher in order to receive the grade for effort.  If the work is sloppy or incomplete a zero will be recorded in the grade book.  Any work not completed before each reporting period will remain a zero in the grade book.

Extra-Credit:

One extra credit assignment will be given each 6-weeks.  This grade will be to replace the students’ lowest daily grade.  Students who wish to take advantage of this project will be expected to work independently. Students who receive a failing 3-week report should consider doing the extra credit assignment.  All projects must be turned in prior to the last day of the 6-weeks.

Attendance:

Students who are absent are responsible for making up any work missed.  It is the student’s responsibility to request missed assignments. Students who are absent will be allowed one day for each day of absence to turn in assignments.  It is extremely important that students attend school on a daily basis; however there are those times when it is unavoidable and a student must be absent.  If an absence is planned in advance please make sure to request assignments that will be missed during the absence.  If the student picks up assignments prior to a planned absence, those assignments are due the day the student returns to school.

Tardy:

Students are expected to be in their assigned seat ready to work when the tardy bell rings.  A student who is late to class without an excuse is considered to have an unexcused tardy.

Junior High Tardy Policy

1st Tardy                                  Warning
2nd & 3rd Tardy                        Lunch detention
4th Tardy                                  1 Day After-School Detention
5th & After                              2 Days After-School Detention

Repeated instances of tardiness will result in more severe disciplinary action, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
