John Denver was born in Roswell, New Mexico to Henry John Deutschendorf, Sr. and Erma Louise Swope as Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. His first introduction to music was made by his grandmother when she gave him a 1910 Gibson guitar at the age of seven.
He began to learn to play and was soon playing in local clubs during college. This is where he adopted the surname John Denver, because Deutshendorf didn't fit very well on a marqee. He is famous for recording variousd songs such as Leaving on a Jet Plane, Thank God I'm a Country Boy, Annie's Song (was about his first wife), and Take me Home Country Roads.

John Denver also began many humanitarian works in Alaska, Africa, China and The Yellowstone.
